Sequence for the CRO gene from bacteriophage Lambda with no promoter. The role of the cro protein is critical in the decision of bacteriophage Lambda to enter lysogeny or remain proceed to a lytic cycle. If the cro protein exists at a high enough concentration relative to the cI protein (which keeps Lambda in lysogeny), lambda will enter the lytic cycle.
